Video Tutorials

*Please note: the following video tutorials require the Techsmith video codec to be viewed correctly. You can find it here.

A series of video tutorials, providing a comprehensive walkthrough of the process of animating, rendering, shading and compositing a short animated sequence.

Viewport Rigging UI Setup (75mb, 35min)

This tutorial illustrates the process behind setting up custom sliders and manipulators in your viewports used to control your animation rigs, similar to the UIs used in rigs like the lowMax rig.

Bird Wing Rig Part 2 (40mb, 30 min)

This video tutorial shows you how to rig a bird's wing in the same way as shown with the video tutorial below, only this time I explain how to use scripting instead of a manual setup to speed up the process.

***Michael Oliver graciously volunteered to write a script demonstrating a more efficient way to rig the wing described in this video. Although his code is more optimized than the code shown in the video, it's based on the same principles. You can download it here!

Bird Wing Rig Part 1 (30mb, 10 min)

This video tutorial shows you how to rig the feathers of a bird's wing in the same way that I rigged the feathers of the bird in my sparrow animation.

Reactor and Pflow (200mb, 1.5 hours)

This video tutorial covers both Reactor and PFlow, and explains a way to combine both of those things into a scene to get the effect of a cannon ball smashing through a wall.

Overall, this tutorial covers every aspect of creating the scene, from modelling to reactor setup to simulating to particle setup to rendering.

The final animation that the video tutorial shows you how to produce can be found here.

NOTE: it was brought to my attention that during the part in the video where I mention that my computer crashed, I forgot to also mention that you need to turn on "Lock On Emitter" in your Position Object emitter in order to get the particles to work properly. So...don't forget that!

This tutorial explains a simple way to simulate rigid-body dymaics using reactor, in the same way that I did for my car crash animation.
This tutorial covers the basic theory behind animating secondary motion.
This tutorial covers the theory and basics behind rigging a face with bones.
This tutorial explains how to create a basic fracture explosion using Particle Flow.
